In case you didn’t hear (i.e. you haven’t heard me yelling it from the rooftops), your resident Love Guru is getting married. Amidst the craziness and chaos that comes with wedding planning, I almost forgot that we have some major holidays coming up. No, seriously: I am an unapologetic Premature Christmas Celebrator, and I am having feverish nightmares where I awaken on December 26th, having completely forgotten to celebrate the yuletide. That is why I am being even more intentional about celebrating these hallowed holidays, and let’s face it: shopping is a pivotal part of celebrating.
Sure, long shopping lists can be daunting, but I encourage you to embrace the holiday spirit and think about what that list really is: a list of loved ones whom you get to celebrate, and a list of decorations you get to use as you deck out your house, Christmas-style. So stow that Scrooge-esque attitude in the stocking, and join me at the Holiday Open House, where I’ll revel in my holiday celebrations by stopping by:
Every family has its sweet tooth (guilty as charged) and even the health conscious out there (decidedly not guilty) have to indulge in a sweet treat every now and then this time of year. From Gobstoppers to fudge and everything in between, Atomic Candy offers anything you need to keep the cravings sated this season.
Captiva Salon & Spa
If you haven’t treated yo’ self all year, now is the time to do just that. Heck, even if you have treated yo’ self, now is a great time to do it again! The holidays can be stressful, so cruise to Captiva to get some skincare products or book a spa day for you and your crew. Pro tip: Face masks make great stocking stuffers.
First People’s Jewelers
You can’t go wrong with jewelry, gents. ‘Nuff said.
Half-Pint Children’s Boutique
For that tyke in your life. This new boutique is full of clothes and accessories for the cute kiddos of Denton to always be stylin’.
Recycled Books, Records, CDs
For the book, music and/or movie lover in your life, aka all of your friends and family. Seriously, if you’re stumped on finding a gift for that hard-to-shop-for brother or the crotchety uncle (we all have one) then run to Recycled, where I’ll undoubtedly be hibernating for the winter.
In between shopping at any and all of these local vendors, stop by Oak St. Drafthouse for a cold one, or Game Changers for a bite. And, of course, you can’t forget to partake in Sunday’s Elfie Selfie celebration: a contest whereby you can win prizes by finding the elusive elf at one of these vendors and posting a selfie with it between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Word to the wise: Sometimes men wear elf costumes during the holidays, and no matter how excited they are to take a selfie with you, they may not be the elf you seek. I learned that the hard way.
