What is an Sr22?

An SR-22 is a certificate of financial responsibility. This cerificate guarantees you carry the minimum amount of insurance required by state law. It is also a requirement for anyone who has an Sr22, to have it for a set amount of years. This ranges from two to five years.

Who is an Sr22 for?

Sr22’s are only required for certain drivers. This includes drivers with safety responsibility suspensions, unsatisfied judgment suspensions, revocations and mandatory insurance supervision. This includes individuals that have received three or more convictions for insurance violations.

Forms of Sr22

The Operator’s Certificate covers the driver in any non-owned vehicle. An Owner’s Certificate covers cars owned by the driver. The type of vehicle or vehicles must be listed on the Sr-22 form. Operators-owners certificate covers all cars owned and not owned by the driver.

If the Sr-22 expires or is canceled, then your provider will have to notify the Safety and Financial Responsibility Section. This will remain in effect until the financial responsibility filing has been reinstated.
